Moot Courts
The Icfai Law School integrates the practical learning with
that of classroom learning. It believes that real life situations of legal arena
can be known only when the students equip themselves fully by way of practical
knowledge with real sense of participation and commitment. Legal education with
the help of moot court participation stimulates the learning zeal of students.
Moot courts are significant tools which educate and enrich the students both in
the practical and theoretical aspects of legal learning. The moot courts help in
understanding bar and bench relationship. It is an intellectual exercise which
demands commitment and sincere efforts of the participants.
The essential elements of a moot court can be understood and
practiced in different stages like analysis of the facts of a case to arrive at
legal points, to undertake research to understand decided cases in light of a
case presented in the moot court, preparation of the plaint, written statement,
and drafting the written and oral arguments and behavior of the participants
(advocates) with the opponent counselors and the bench. Participation of
students in moot courts helps to gain first hand information, advocacy skills
and expertise in handling the court room. Thus, the moot court process has a
greater role to play in the learning curve of a law student.
The law school emphasizes and encourages students to
participate in moot court competitions at different levels. It mandates every
student to play proactive role in organizing and conducting of moot courts.
Mentoring Process
In order to streamline the activities of students coming from
different families and cultural backgrounds and to provide guidance to the
students to achieve their objectives, ILS has introduced the ‘Mentoring
Process’. Mentoring is taken up for the law students in order to fine-tune the
performance of the students and allow the students to learn valuable things from
the mentor, which might not be possible in a normal classroom teaching.
The process is aimed to help the students to come out of
their problems (academic and non-academic) in the absence of their parental
guidance, streamline the inherent skills and strengthen the student for building
up best career and best future. In this process, all the students enrolled into
the Icfai Law School undergo mentoring process.
All the faculty members will be involved in the process gradually based upon
the requirement as Mentors. A group of students will be allotted to a faculty
member, and as a mentor of the group, the concerned faculty member is
responsible for implementation of the process.
